INSOMNIA: This is a common type of sleep disorder across the world. More than 3 million cases are reported from the US every year. RESTLESS LEGS SYNDROME(RLS): Though it is a nervous system disorder, doctors consider it a sleeping disorder as it gets worse when your body is at rest. People with this problem generally experience sensation in their legs, itching, burning, tingling, or throbbing sensation. This problem is considered a hereditary problem as generally people with family history have this condition. It is also called Willis-Ekbom disease. Although there is no known cure till date. People facing this health condition generally advised with legs exercise, better dietary supplements or lifestyle changes. In some cases extreme exercise can increase the severity of the problem. Despite these medications such as antidepressants, diphenhydramine (Benadryl) has an extreme effect on this condition.
NARCOLEPSY: It is a very rare sleep disorder as less than 20,000 cases are reported every year in the US. It is a very common problem between the age group of 18-35 years. It is characterised by drowsiness, hallucinations, sudden sleep attacks throughout the day, People suffering from such problems tend to be less active which severely impact their productivity. The most common symptom is daytime sleepiness. The patient would feel fresh for sometime after the sleep but suddenly starts feeling sleepy again. People with this condition can sleep doing activities like driving, sleeping or even talking. Doctors use medical tests, sleep records or multiple sleep latency tests to ascertain the reason.Treatment typically includes medication and lifestyle changes.
